What is Alexandria Dollars for Scholars®? Alexandria Dollars for Scholars (DFS) is a volunteer-run nonprofit in Alexandria, Minnesota that supports academic success in our community specific to graduating seniors of Alexandria Area High School. As part of Scholarship America's® national network of locally based Dollars for Scholars chapters, our mission is to mobilize our community on behalf of postsecondary education success for our Alexandria Area High School graduating seniors. Dollars for Scholars chapters like ours help hometown students achieve their educational goals by raising scholarship funds, establishing endowments, providing assistance with college readiness and the financial aid process, and distributing scholarships each year.

 

Who can receive a scholarship from Alexandria DFS? According to our bylaws, graduating seniors from Alexandria Area High School (AAHS), formerly known as Jefferson High School, may be eligible to receive a scholarship. Each student must apply via our chapter website by creating a profile and completing the requested information. Selection criteria may include student rankings amongst their peers (GPA); completion of AAHS academic requirements; leadership roles a student achieves; successful participation in extracurricular activities provided by AAHS, and more.

  • March 12, 2025 - Applications available
  • April 2, 2025 -  Application completion and submission deadline
  • May 12, 2025 - Honors Night at Alexandria Area High School, 7 pm
  • June 5, 2025 - Award acceptance deadline by 11:59 pm
  • June 5, 2025 - Redemption/deferment deadline

  • How many scholarships are awarded each year? Each year, our chapter awards 120-140 scholarships totaling $190,000-$206,000. Since 1984, our chapter has awarded over $3.35 million in scholarships!
